Spent 9 hours in the library yesterday. Lovely, lovely LAWR. (alliteration!)

Am going mad.

I sometimes dread going for law fcg meetings, especially when it's the day before a memo is due. But everytime I do go, I'm happy to have gone. Today, it was a two hours well spent. :)

Identify the issues. Separate the issues. Use determinative facts. Apply the rules. What does the case turn on?

CRuPAC? Not so simple.

Issues are hard to identify and even harder to separate. There should be one main issue but that doesn't mean denying the existence of others. Case law is varied and contradictory. There are no hard and fast rules, and gaps all over the place.

Nic and I baked chocolate pudding cake today! It's like brownies, only gooeier (how do you spell that??) and stickier. Haha you can see it in the picture with the ice cream and the meringue chocolate thingie. It looks chao da. But it isn't; it's all the chocolate. Sinful. And we ate Botak Jones! It's just across the road from my house but I've only eaten there once (not counting today). I like the food. Must go more often, but I'm v lazy to wait. (:

Realised that I have a lot of work to do this weekend. Read & understand contract, read the full cases my tutor asked us to read, do contract tut, read legal theory (to understand would be wonderful, but it's something I can't realistically hope for), read cases for crim law... But the bulk of the work lies in LAWR. Stupid stat memo. I feel damn lost. Have no idea how or where to start my research. Urgh.

Went to watch Pan's Labyrinth last night with the usual Friday night group. (Or, as jojoy puts it, the Lily Wong core group. Makes it sound like the Lily Wong entity is the sun and we're all little planets revolving around it, drawing warmth and light and life from it. Haha.) Anyway, the movie was SUPER SUPER SUPER SCARY. Sam & Jon bluffed me, they said that it wouldn't be scary at all. :( I sat there in terror for like one and a half hours. It wasn't just scary in a violence&gore way, like when the facsists were torturing the guerillas. It was scary in a damn disturbing way. And I was really annoyed with the main character, the little girl. Cos she's annoying and keeps wandering off by herself and you can't help thinking OMG CAN SHE BE ANY MORE DUMB???!!! DON'T CRAWL INTO THAT CAVE!!! DON'T EAT THE GRAPE!!! So anyway. I should have paid only 2.50 cos I only saw like 1/4 of the show. Plus the subtitles through my fingers. I kind of liked the ending though. The entire show kind of came to light for me when I realised that the Captain couldn't see the faun. And was it just me, or did the show have some biblical parallels? The sacrifice, sitting at her father's side... I actually found the show pretty cool. Just terrifying.

After that we went to The Dubliner's Irish Pub (can't qt remember the name; it's sth like that). Haha we spent a substantial amount of time discussing the theme for the upcoming freshmen orientation camp. So exciting. :)

Ohh. Yest’s law fcg was pretty good. We discussed moral quagmires. Like would you defend a murderer? And would mandatory death sentencing discourage you from wanting to become a public prosecutor / judge? Haha and all the crim law and legal theory stuff came pouring out! We’re such nerds. And I found out some stuff that is qt helpful. Not to mention decisive. Hmmm. strongbow cider.

Playing Bluff today in the Student Lounge was fun. So was dinner with glenda and beek, except the part where we walked in the rain and waited for a bus/cab for half an hour.

Habitually reading food blogs is v bad.

Weekend's been good so far. 8 ppl squashed into the car yest for lunch at Taman Serasi. I ended up in front and on Clarisse's lap, and was fervently hoping we wouldn't be stopped by the cops. Trudged home in the pouring rain, bathed and went to meet Nic for dinner at Fish&Co. I really like the prawn pasta salad thing!! But yest there seemed to be an abnormally large amount of lettuce. Haha but still nice. After that we went to meet the law peeps, for the museum. In an effort to be intellectual and cultured. The exhibits were surprisingly not as boring as I thought they'd be. They had interesting themes like food and fashion and film. Then timbre! For our usual friday night music & drinks & company. A little strange though. Well, I guess if you aren't into this sort of thing then there's no point forcing it. Later, we stood in the rain for half an hour, trying to get a cab. But of course the empty cabs all happily whizzed by. CABBIES ARE MEAN. We ended up walking all the way to PS and then booking cabs. Urgh. It was then that I resolved to learn how to drive. ASAP.

Today's been really relaxed. :) Met Nic for a macs breakfast, during which I finally got the hotcakes + maple sytup that I've been craving the entire week. And this afternoon I baked oatmeal raisin cookies! They're fine but why is it my cookies are always so flat!?! :( Heee am going to try the prosperity burger later. Am excited. I know, my life is sad.

First week of school's just over and I can't wait for the end of sem alr. Cos it'll be the 3-month hols! HK (hopefully) and law camp and css camp and jy's coming back! :):)

Eeeeee. The rain is my enemy. At least it has been for the past couple of days. When I got home today I was drenched, even though I had an umbrella. The worst is the feet. Trying my best to delicately step around puddles but in the end just giving up and trying not splash. And they aren't just water puddles, they're like disgusting muddy pools with strange black stuff floating around in them. Thankfully I wasn't in jeans.

Yay I'm finally well! I just opened the box of Ferrero Rocher that has been sitting in my fridge for the longest time. :):)

Guess what. One of my tutors just emailed us TODAY with instructions to READ and DO stuff by TMR. And my Beckman book is in school. Which means that I've gotta get up EARLY tmr to go to school EARLY although contract lec was cancelled. And I've got to read a bunch of statutes and notes and textbooks and then do the qns which she sent which look damn hard. By 10.30am. Quoting raffli, omg.

Okay. Shall stop complaining. The past couple of days have been pretty good actually. Played mj yest with mich, jq & sam! And although I was off to a shaky start, overall I actually made money! Jq was, as always, damn lucky (could also be due to a new addition to his wardrobe), except for the time he hu-ed wrongly. Haha. Met mich, sam, jq & christine today at bugis to shop. Hardly bought anything! Heeee am so disciplined. Yay and they are v nice, they bought me stuff from Bangkok! So even though I didn't go, I have 3 new tops and a new dress. Wheeeee.

The past two days have been relatively uneventful. Yesterday I attended the Red Mass at the Novena church with the CSS peeps. It's a mass meant for people in the law profession. Some trivia: The first recorded Red Mass was celebrated in 1245 in Paris, and it was so called because the Mass was celebrated in honour of the Holy Spirit, for which red vestments were worn, and because the judges of the High Court also wore red robes. Haha. I am not a nerd, that's what it says on the last page of the Mass booklet.

Ohh today I baked orange butter cookies! Haha they were kind of flat. And the orange taste was quite faint. But not bad, considering I didn't plan to bake in advance and had to make do with what was in the fridge.

I finished reading Love in the Time of Cholera!! I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked. :( The protagonist is way too dramatic and mopey for my liking. Towards the end, when you're supposed to be in nail-biting anticipation wondering whether or not Fermina Daza will finally accept Florentino Ariza after 50 years of unrequited love, I was inwardly dissing the guy for not taking a hint. Is it that I've lost all traces of idealism? Because call me a cynic, but I can't see how he can fall in love with her just by walking past her. And how he can continue to pine after her after being rejected very rudely and then catching only glimpses of her (always staunchly by her husband's side) once in awhile. These make all his fervent declarations seem quite shallow. There's no real structure to the story; just a beginning and an end, with the middle part all kind of jumbled up. Despite all that, it's quite an engaging read. Gabriel Garcia Marquez's powers of description are lethal.

Went shopping yest! First was with my sis. We had a v filling Teppanyaki lunch at Wisma, then walked around town, with a one-hr stop at Kinokuniya. Haha she's v lousy, walk a bit only complain tired. I didn't buy anything though, besides a pencil case for my sis. Then I went to meet peis! Haha we shopped for 6 hrs! And we had a v happy dinner at KFC. I bought a belt, two pairs of shorts and slippers. So now I'm v broke. I'm determined to leave my ATM card at home the next time I go shopping. Which should be quite soon. Lalala.

School's starting soon. Don't know how I'm gonna get up at 7 when I've been sleeping an average of 10 hrs/night this week.

WHEEEEE my new fav pasttime is you-tubing So You Think You Can Dance routines. :):)Yesterday's show was so good! Am in love with Allison & Ivan's hiphop/r&b 'Sexy Love' routine! Heee am feeling much better alr. I've got a cough now but flu is nearly gone. And I bought white shorts today! And heels. Okay am going to get ready to sleep. Gonna sleep very very early tonight, hopefully I'll be better tmr! So I can go shopping with my sis and then with peis&nee. :)

Being sick over the new year is NOT FUN. Didn't see the law peeps off at the airport yest cos I wasn't feeling well. Then there were the bomb blasts in Bangkok! Thankfully they're all fine. :)

Tribers came over last night for our new year countdown sleepover! It turned out to be qt an interesting gossip/reveal-all session. Peis is full of scandals! Hahah. :):) Ade and nee fought over my sister's giraffe-cow. And yw tortured frosty. We played mahjong to keep awake, but some watched vcds and fell asleep on the couch. At 5am nee was picked up for a romantic escapade! Heeee so sweet. By the time they left, I was half-dead. Thought I'd contracted stomach flu or sth cos my stomach hurt nearly the entire night. But it was fine this morn leh.

Being sick really, really sucks. Esp when I want to go out but can't. I feel like I'm wasting the last, precious week of my hols. And sarah's going back to UK soon and I haven't met up with her yet!! Eeeeekkkk. GO AWAY, GERMS.
