Monday, April 24, 2006 5:27 PM Over the weekend, I baked lemon bars, which have been on my to-bake list for the longest time (ever since I ate jy’s fab lemon squares in j1, I believe). They were surprisingly easy to make and they turned out pretty well, except that the shortcrust bottom was too crumbly so it had to be eaten straight out of the pan. Even my sis, the most ardent down-putter of my baking (pardon my expression), conceded that it was good, even though she thought it was a cheesecake. Ah well. Anyway, I really like lemon bars so I plan to try all the different lemon bar recipes until I find the perfect one. Bad timing though, cos my mom just told me not to bake so much buttery stuff, since ¾ the household is trying to lose weight. Speaking of my mom, yest I watched her chop up a frozen chicken for dinner. It was terrifying. I so suck when it comes to things like this. How am I going to learn cooking ilke that? According to my expenditure spreadsheet, about two-fifths my expenditure goes to food. That’s weird, isn’t it, when I don’t actually feel like I’m spending on much else? Just last thur I had dinner at Miss Clarity’s with the girls. The food there isn’t all that good, to be honest, but pretty value-for-money. Ohh but the dessert rocks, especially the chocolate mud thingie with ice cream. Darn good. Gotta learn how to make it someday. And Thai Express on Saturday! Good weekend, I’d say. :) Wednesday, April 19, 2006 10:16 AM Stressful day at work yesterday. Everything that could have gone wrong did. Terrible. Also, phone conversations have temporarily been reduced to one sms a day, but it can’t be helped. :( On a happier note, my aunt passed me 4 Pillsbury baking books! Yay can’t wait to get started. :) Monday, April 17, 2006 4:09 PM I had a good weekend, food-wise. On Saturday, I went swimming at Grandeur and then satisfied my prata cravings at Casuarina Curry, where I indulged in a cheese and an egg&onion prata with fish curry, all courtesy of a very nice person. On Sunday, my family and I had lunch at Parkway Thai Restaurant, which serves very good thai food. I love my Asian cuisines. :) I discovered a foodie's paradise recently - NTUC. Seriously. It has the most amazing array of biscuits and chocolates and snacks, which I live on. Can't wait to stop work so that I can bake full-time. 2:20 PM Every once in awhile, you stumble upon something infinitely precious and good, and you want to share it with the people you love and care about. It could be a wonderful piece of poetry or a recipe for sinfully delicious brownies. When it comes to certain things, however, sharing gets tricky. Tuesday, April 11, 2006 11:43 AM Had a mellow weekend. Went to Max Brenner's for the second time that week and had some really yummy waffles topped with vanilla icecream and chocolate ganache. It was surprisingly un-crowded, for a saturday evening, which was good since we (j, g, rah + visitor) could sit around and talk about the most ridiculous things uninterrupted. Treated my family to Magic Wok on sun. They serve thai-chinese food, and it's not bad, if a little too flavourful (meaning msg/salt-laden). Also, the portions are pretty generous so you get to eat A LOT. The dessert was not so good though. Quite cheap but the red rubies were too hard and the tapioca too fibrous. Thai Express is still my favourite. :) Ohh I bought the Franz Ferdinand CD and Dirty Dancing 2. I'd recommend both, although Dirty Dancing 2 is really more about the dancing than the plot. Want to watch the original one... Met rah yest for lunch at Raffles Place. The Drew & Napier sign is so big and intimidating but in a way pretty because it's THE law firm. And rah gets to work there and see all those high-profile people in action everyday! And there's a Subway at her workplace! Am insanely jealous. Thursday, April 06, 2006 2:01 PM Hello, am back with another post. It's the only fun thing to do at work. Besides emailing and surfing food blogs and opening snack drawer. Ohh yest when I got home it was raining heavily so couldn't jog! Was sad! Then decided to bake, and was happy. I started with a blackberry muffin recipe and but I tweaked the recipe and ended up with strawberry raisin muffins instead. Halved the recipe but kept the amount of milk the same (by accident), substituted the sour cream with strawberry yogurt, ignored the blackberries entirely and added raisins. Turned out not bad, actually. Shall try it again, with some other sort of yogurt and fruit. Was looking forward to swimming this sat but my boss wants me to come back! :( Ah well. At least the rate is 1.5x the usual. And I can swim after that! Tuesday, April 04, 2006 8:58 AM Yest I met xiaoyan for a yummy pasta lunch at The Griller. She came all the way down from uni in Shanghai to have lunch with me! Haha actually she came down to Tiong Bahru from Yio Chu Kang, but still am v touched. :) Then had dinner at Glutton's Bay with haz! Yummy hawker fare and riverview, not bad. And then a Venezuelan Dark Chocolate hug mug at Max Brenner's! Sinful stuff. So must be disciplined for the rest of the week. Only there's this terribly inviting warm chicken pie smell wafting around office. Do warm chicken pie and cold chicken pie smell the same? Haii. Ohhh have started doing a spreadsheet of expenditure for this month! Am turning into responsible adult! Qt fun, actually, seeing all the numbers add up. And v colourful. I wonder if this is what accountants do. Monday, April 03, 2006 10:12 AM Not feeling the Monday Blues today. Excited about HK! Hope everything comes through. :) Had a relaxing weekend. Baked a lemon cake with lemon frosting, and the recipe's a keeper. Next will be jy's to-die-for lemon bars. Spent Sunday lazing about reading the papers, admiring luxury destinations on Discovery Travel & Living, looking through some old pieces of writing. Realised that I've been blogging a lot lately, about nothing in particular. Ah well. Blogging's qt relaxing too. People should update more often so I have things to read at work. |
