Sunday, December 26, 2004 9:33 PM 'Maybe I'm Amazed' by Jem is my favourite song of the moment. It's one of those songs that you can just lie down and listen to over and over again. It so rocks. So does Hans blackforest cake. :)
Saturday, December 25, 2004 9:08 PM Merry Christmas, all! :)
Christmas this year has been pretty uneventful, but good. Am listening to the music for the Nutcracker now. It's composed by Tchaikovsky, and surprisingly good. Never thought I'd be into classical music. Some of the songs actually sound quite familiar. I never knew they were from the Nutcracker. Now I want to watch the ballet! Thursday, December 23, 2004 10:37 AM Wednesday, December 22, 2004 9:20 AM 16th July! Wow. That's like, in seven months. That is also my mom's birthday. That is also when all normal J2s will be mugging like crazy. Either way, I'll be up at five in the morning and queueing in Borders by six. (Cryptic post? Only the rightly obsesssed will know what I'm referring to.)
Emmy Rossum is really lovely. Hard to believe that she's only one year and one day older than me. I wanna watch Phantom of the Opera but there's the scary music and scary effects and all. Jake Gyllenhaal is also really lovely. I wanna watch The Day After Tomorrow again. Monday, December 20, 2004 9:36 AM Christmas shopping in Singapore is really all about the queueing. Queueing at traffic lights, queueing to park, queueing to buy gifts, queueing to get them wrapped. And, as far as Orchard is concerned, these are long queues. I know it's the festive season and all, and we're supposed to be merry and chirpy and whatnot, but it grates on my nerves. Christmas has been so commercialised and, sad to say, I number among those caught up in the search for The Perfect Gift(/s). I don't want to lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas, and I think I just might be heading in that direction. I need to go to church more often; I'm afraid I'm turning into a Sunday Catholic. This is going to sound random, but 'What Child is This' is the loveliest carol ever.
In other news, I have no TV shows left to watch. ANTM has ended, and so have Gilmore Girls and The OC. Speaking of which, the last episode of The OC, which aired last Thursday, was heartbreaking. Spent the last quarter of it sobbing at the TV. I love that show. It's kind of hard to imagine that Seth, Summer, Marissa and Ryan are about the same age as me, though. They seem so much more grownup. Sunday, December 12, 2004 7:41 AM Yesterday was un-spectecularly great. Spent half the day bringing the hougang kids around a small carnival, had cup noodles for dinner, read a very interesting and inspiring 13-page 'special report' in the papers, spent the rest of the night re-reading fifty pages of The Hours (best book ever. BEST.), and was promptly in bed before ten. :) Thursday, December 09, 2004 9:59 PM Monday, December 06, 2004 11:02 AM I woke up at six today and baked brownies.
The wonders of jetlag. Sunday, December 05, 2004 8:52 AM I'm back. :) US so rocked. Universal Studios, Disneyland and California Adventure were typically all fast rides and fun. Disneyland is gorgeous. It's all... I don't know, shimmery and magical. The one in Japan pales in comparison. I know it's merely picture-perfect, but when you're surrounded by castles and trees, and Minnie Mouse is standing right beside you, you kind of lose the cynicism bit and go around all starry-eyed and bouncy. Day 4 was my day- shopping! Haha, my mom and I kind of just abandoned my dad and sis somewhere (they hate shopping- I just don't understand it) and went off on a spending spree. I'm now officially too broke to venture into the xmas sales. :( The Grand Canyon was lovely! Absolutely majestic. It was also freezing up there. Walked around snapping photos till I couldn't feel my hands and nose, but it was totally worth it. It's this sort of thing that makes me regret not taking Geography. (I just paused blogging for breakfast. Good ol' Singapore food, how I miss thee.) At Las Vegas, we stayed at the Riviera. Vegas is wonderful at night, but boring otherwise. Decadent much, but so entertaining; there's so much to see. The 'sirens' at Treasure Island were pretty damn good. Don't know how they can stand prancing about in the cold wearing only little bits of cloth, though. I can't believe they had a white tiger in The Mirage. And lions in MGM. I mean, how can they be kept in hotels? The light show in the Old Vegas was pretty boring; the best part of it was standing in the middle of the street sipping hot chocolate from Starbucks. I noticed that they love alternating fire and water in their shows. It makes a stunning combination. There was more shopping on the way to Fresno. I bought a black hooded pullover, which I've been wanting for ages, from Gap. The inn there was small, but all quaint and cosy. The rooms had prints of paintings, including Monet's. :) The 17-Mile drive (on the way to San Francisco) had really pretty scenery, especially that of the Pacific Ocean. We fed squirrels! Or at least, they did, while I walked around squealing 'so cute!', trying to get as close as possible without freaking out. :) I love taking pictures of scenery. My parents said I was wasting precious memory card space. I adored San Francisco. I think I'm just attracted to cities. We took a forty-minute cruise, which I loved. I have this thing for cruises. It's just the water and wind and all. The ship went under the Golden Gate Bridge, and past the Bay Bridge and Alcatraz. Later the bus took us up to the twin peaks, where we had an amazing view of the city lights. That was our last night in USA. The plane ride back was horrid. 18 hours of torture. Usually I love plane rides but this one was just bad. Long-haul is very, very bad for my back. And my mood. Watched 'Before Sunset' on the plane, and fell in love with it. Also watched 'The Princess Diaries 2', which was entertaining but not all that good. Aah well, I'm glad to be back. The weather in US was very dry, very bad for my skin. Also freezing, to the point where bathing was a challenge. Now, I have a whole long list of movies that I plan to watch, either in the cinema or on vcd/dvd, before school reopens, including: National Treasure Before Sunrise Finding Neverland Ocean's 12 Closer The Polar Express Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason |
